The Stages of Custom Home Design
Pre-Design Diagnosis
The first essential step in any successful project is understanding what it entails. Engaging in pre-planning now, before starting the design phase, is crucial for ensuring your project’s success. This preparation helps clarify your goals and preferences, making the design process smoother and more efficient. To learn more about this foundational step, watch the video at the link below for valuable insights on why it’s the most important part of any project.
Programming & Design
This is the most fun part for both owners and the Architect! At this stage we sit down and review all of the rooms that you would like to see in your new build, but more than that: we consider any required adjacencies, features, and sizes. once Programming is settled, the Architect will work through Schematic design. The initial concept will come together fairly quickly, but the full design process can take many months as we work through various systems, materials, and details together. Each step in the design process drills down deeper and into greater depth. This culminates in the completed set of Construction Documents that can be used for submission to the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
Construction Administration
An essential - and often overlooked - part of the process are the duties of an Architect throughout construction. Your Architect is an advocate for you to the Contractor. The three parties form a partnership to hold each other accountable through the entire build.
